Barrel length for turkey9/21/2023 ![]() ![]() The 870 super mag I got has a white front bead and a brass mid-rib bead and I've just never had issues. I settled on that and it's been a good decision.Īlso say I've never used optics or any kind of specialized sights. I tried them in the 3-1/2" and none patterned nowhere near as good as the factory turkey choke that came with the gun. As such when I bought the 3-1/2" I had several Hastings chokes from the other 870 I had. ![]() What works for me might not be the answer to someone else shooting the same gun or load. I really don't like to suggest chokes as there's too many variables. Just been a great turkey gun as far as patterning and I really like the 3 1/2 performance as it really likes the Winchester 2-1/4 oz loads of #5's with the factory super full turkey choke. It's killed a bunch of turkeys over the years. Then around the early 90's when 3-1/2"'s came on the scene I traded it for a 870 SPS-T Super Mag. So the 26" barrel seemed short to me at the time. Which prior to that gun I had turkey hunted with 2-3/4" shotguns that had 30" full choke barrels that I squirrel hunted with. first shotgun I ever owned with removable chokes. My first dedicated turkey shotgun was a 870 Special Purpose 3" mag. ![]()
